Position Summary
This position plans and coordinates electrical estimating functions and is responsible for managing the electrical estimating process from beginning to end. Works under minimal supervision and works closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors. Produces a comprehensive estimate for various types of commercial and industrial projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews and evaluates requests for estimates.
- Ensures estimates are completed in a timely matter.
- Proven experience leading a team.
- Reads all bid documents, specifications and drawings from all trades as applies to own work.
- Efficiency with take-offs, electronically or manually.
- Prepares bids either from a conceptual stage, design assist, or plans and specifications.
- Overlays drawings for any changes in scope using Bluebeam or Live Count.
- Analyzes bids and proposes value engineer cost saving ideas.
- Provides leadership, direction, training, and serves as a mentor for the Junior Estimators, Estimators and works well with all team members.
- Reviews, estimates, and revises for completeness and accuracy.
- Is familiar with local and national codes.
- Reviews vendors bill of materials and subcontractors scope letters for accuracy.
- Prepares cost in Accubid by recapitulating material, labor, indirect labor, subcontractors, general expense, equipment rental, quoted material, bid breakdowns, and final pricing.
- Prepares proposal letters and bid forms.
- Participates in client scope review meetings.
- Manages estimating processes and timelines to meet company objectives, both long and short term.
- Performs necessary research to produce accurate, complete, and competitive pricing.
- Communicates with customers to define the project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing and build relationships.
- Prepares and presents completed estimating packages to company executives and senior management.
- Continuously follows up on all bid projects and accurately forecasts future awards/probabilities.
- Properly transfers awarded projects to operations team and performs buyouts when necessary.
- Follows estimating procedures and guidelines.
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree a plus or equivalent required related experience
- 8+ years of experience in an estimating role with a focus in large multi- million-dollar commercial projects.
- 5+ years of preconstruction experience with a focus in large multi-million-dollar commercial projects.
- Experience with Accubid a must
- Experience with Live Count Software a plus

- Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- This position requires travel by vehicle, the ability to work and walk at construction sites during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
