JB Harris Transport LLC is seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager to oversee operations at our heavy equipment yard in Sweeny, TX. This role will be responsible for managing daily yard activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, logistics coordination, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment operations, yard management, and leadership, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Yard Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the heavy equipment yard, ensuring smooth workflows and optimal efficiency.
- Manage scheduling, dispatch, and logistics for all equipment rentals, deliveries, and returns.
- Ensure equipment is maintained, cleaned, and inspected according to company standards and safety regulations.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of yard personnel, including equipment operators, mechanics, and administrative staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing training to ensure team members perform at their best.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and accountability in line with JB Harris Transport LLC’s values and goals.
- Inventory and Asset Management:
- Oversee equipment inventory, ensuring accurate tracking, timely availability, and proper utilization of all assets.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to schedule and manage equipment repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
- Monitor inventory levels of spare parts, fuel, and supplies, and coordinate reorders as necessary.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to uphold company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Investigate and report any safety incidents, taking corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Customer Service and Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their equipment needs are met on time and to their satisfaction.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, handling inquiries, resolving issues, and providing accurate delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to identify and pursue opportunities for yard revenue growth.
- Financial Management and Budgeting:
- Develop and manage the yard’s operating budget, focusing on cost control and operational efficiency.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare and present regular reports on yard operations, financial performance, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Strategic Planning and Process Improvement:
- Analyze yard operations and develop strategies to optimize productivity and reduce operational costs.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, bringing innovative ideas to improve yard management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment yard management, operations, or logistics, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment types, maintenance requirements, and logistics operations.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, and best practices in yard management.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational expenses.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with yard management software preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and occasionally work at heights or with heavy equipment.
