Position Summary: The HVAC Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC systems across campus facilities, including Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, Daikin units, and commercial low-pressure boilers. This role ensures a comfortable environment for students, faculty, and staff by conducting regular inspections, diagnosing issues, and implementing efficient HVAC solutions. The HVAC Technician collaborates closely with the maintenance team and other facility staff to support a productive learning and working atmosphere while prioritizing safety and energy efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
HVAC System Maintenance: Maintain and repair HVAC systems across campus, focusing on VRF systems (including Daikin equipment), commercial low-pressure boilers, and air handling units to optimize climate control.
Check-Test-Start: Perform initial system checks and tests for newly installed HVAC equipment, ensuring all components meet quality and performance standards.
Routine Inspections and Diagnostics: Conduct routine inspections to identify potential issues, diagnose malfunctions using specialized tools, and apply appropriate solutions to restore full system functionality.
Preventive Maintenance: Execute preventive maintenance tasks, such as replacing filters, annual inspections of all systems, calibrating thermostats, and cleaning coils, to maximize system performance and longevity.
Energy Efficiency Optimization: Implement procedures and prioritize resources to enhance building and equipment efficiency, actively working to reduce energy consumption.
System Repair and Troubleshooting: Use hand tools, blueprints, and engineering specifications to diagnose and repair HVAC systems on campus, ensuring solutions are practical and customer satisfaction is met.
Project Coordination and Collaboration: Work with supervisors, other trades, and maintenance staff on HVAC-related projects, integrating HVAC tasks with campus-wide infrastructure plans for smooth operations.
Customer Service and Training: Serve as a direct contact for customers, documenting work, providing on-site training, and ensuring clients understand basic troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for all personnel and building occupants.
Professional Development: Stay updated on industry advancements, best practices, and new technologies to enhance technical expertise and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 3-6 years in commercial HVAC maintenance, with specific knowledge of VRF systems (Daikin preferred), and commercial boiler systems.
Certification: EPA Certification (required); HVAC Certification (preferred); Boiler Operator’s License (a plus).
Technical Skills: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing VRF, Daikin, commercial HVAC, and boiler systems; knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and HVAC-specific diagnostic tools.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Soft Skills: Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
Working Conditions:
· Primarily indoor work, with some exposure to varied temperature conditions.
· Occasional on-call duty may be required to respond to emergency maintenance needs.
