Installs and repairs heating, gas, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, including drinking fountains, refrigerated air conditioning systems, gas appliances and evaporative coolers.
Makes initial settings and final adjustments of refrigeration and air conditioning systems; modifies existing installations.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and maintains chillers, direct expansion systems, electric blast coils, immersion coils, pumps, fans, starters and related equipment.
Troubleshoots, repairs and/or replaces pneumatic and electrical controls, ignition assemblies, heating elements, exhaust fans and hoods; monitors and recharges refrigerant systems.
Performs routine maintenance, including cleaning systems and duct work; replaces filters and pads; adjusts belts; replaces or repairs motors and supply lines; checks and repairs leaks in heating systems or gas lines; conditions safety valves; recharges refrigerant systems.
Responds to emergencies and ability to be on call 24/7 as assigned by supervisor.
Designs and implements energy management devices on present systems.
Performs work related to this job description as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of air conditioning code requirements.
Thorough knowledge of installation and repair practices in the air conditioning industry.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Knowledge of commercial air conditioning and refrigeration units.
Knowledge of commercial heating systems.
Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment essential for the repair of air conditioning equipment.
Ability to diagnose air conditioning problems.
Graduation from high school or an acceptable equivalency diploma and completion of an approved apprenticeship program and three (3) years journeyman experience in the air conditioning field with special emphasis on trouble-shooting and service experience.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
Must possess a Florida County Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Journeyman’s license.
Must possess a EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
