Summary:
Responsible for accurately coordinating and supervising the work of maintenance employees and contractors in pipeline and terminal maintenance activities which includes pipeline integrity inspection and repairs, pump station and terminal piping modification and maintenance, weld inspection and the upkeep of shop buildings and equipment. Responsible for maintaining the appropriate OQ (operator qualifications), CWI or CPWI certification and other required certification as needed.
- Supervises and assigns the work of maintenance employees and Contractors.
- Inspects work for completeness and site cleanup.
- Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used. Manages the transfer of equipment and personnel from one project to another as necessary.
- Manages the maintenance crew employees and provides job site and project oversight including performing weld inspection per API 1104 and 1107 and NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) inspections.
- Safely lead all pipeline related maintenance activities including in-service pipeline repairs, pipe replacements, line lowerings, damage prevention and excavation activities, hydrostatic testing and other duties as assigned.
- Manages the OQ (operator qualifications) for all direct reports in the area of their assigned craft.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring that company and contract maintenance employees are in compliance with safety and PPE policies and procedures at all times.
- Analyzes all work requests to determine necessary repair or replacement and advises as to estimate manpower and material requirements.
- Determines needs for maintenance materials, warehouse stock, rental equipment, and/or contract services.
- Helps in the counseling, training, development, and appraisal of the performance of maintenance hourly employees in their assigned craft.
- Assists in the development and coordination of scheduled work and prioritization of projects.
- Attends meetings and conference calls to assist in accomplishing scheduled work and resolving key and important maintenance problems.
- Holds toolbox safety meetings and inspections, necessary to achieve safety goals while communicating changes in company policy, procedures, and objectives to employees.
- Analyzes problems that may arise and find a workable solution that is practical as well as cost efficient. Implements safe work habits for all employees and supervises outside service contractors so they can function efficiently.
- Maintains an adequate supply of components and parts to avoid productivity issues and project delays.
- Safely performs emergency response duties as needed.
- Performs physical labor related to pipeline maintenance and inspection activities.
- Ensures all employees and contractors follow established procedures including lock-out/tag-out, welding and damage prevention procedures to assure safety.
- Makes accurate decisions and demonstrates thorough attentiveness to the activities.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations. Reduces potential risk to public safety and environment and minimizes company liability.
- Improves operations efficiency and financial profitability through well maintained facilities.
- Performs all assigned computer-based duties in a proficient and timely manner including completing and approving expense reports, CBT (Computer Based Training) and general use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Assists in the management of all assigned vehicles and DOT fleet
- Must be willing and able to travel 70-80% of the time M-F with occasions over weekend or holiday travel during high priority projects or emergency response situations.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- HS Diploma or Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years’ experience in field operations.
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Experience in maintenance of piping, pumping, measurement, truck and rail rack and related equipment required
- Possession of a current and valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft products
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to independently proof work for accuracy
- Ability to manage time and scheduling to meet appropriate deadlines
- Ability to work successfully in stressful situations, and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to independently conduct job accountabilities
- Ability to read blueprints
- General knowledge of OSHA requirements
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- 40% Normal office working conditions and 60% of the time spent in the field.
- Field work includes exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and use of required personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
