The Electrician role exists in multiple departments within the City of Phoenix with hours, duties, and positions varying in each department; positions may be assigned to shop or field locations. Electricians perform journeyman-level electrician work in the maintenance, construction, installation, alteration, modification, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade for primarily commercial and industrial applications.
Working irregular shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call or standby for emergency support and requests may be required for all departments and will receive supplemental pay accordingly. Assignments are received through sketches, blueprints, work orders, and verbally.

Aviation Department
Partnering with our community to provide world-class airport services to every customer, every day.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining, constructing, installing, and repairing various electrical systems, from airfield lighting to medium-voltage gear.
- Ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial and industrial electrical systems.
- Performing preventive maintenance and occasional electronics metering.
Phoenix Convention Center
The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues is one of the premier convention facilities in the United States, hosting a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events, twenty hours per day seven days per week.
Available Shifts
- Four, ten-hour day or evening shifts.
- Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday.
Public Works Department
The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.
Responsibilities include:
- Installing, maintaining, repairing and replacing electrical wiring systems, equipment and lighting systems.
- Working up to 480 VAC energized with proper PPE may be required.
- Performing preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Documenting findings in a central maintenance database.
- Providing excellent customer service to ensure service is provided to internal and external requests.
- Operating earth-moving, pneumatic, and aerial equipment up to 120'.
- Providing project leadership of other electrical team members including apprentices to complete job tasks.
- Using desktop and mobile devices for data entry, communication, and time entry.
- Certain assignments may include electronics metering and instrumentation and working with various voltages.

- Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday
- 1st shift 6:30 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.
- 2nd shift 1:00 P.M. -11:30 P.M.
- 3rd shift 11:00 P.M. - 9:30 A.M.
Street Transportation Department
The Street Transportation Department installs, maintains, and operates traffic signals throughout the City of Phoenix to allow the safe and efficient flow of vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
Responsibilities include:
- Constructing, remodeling, and maintaining signalized intersections.
- Providing electrical and construction work throughout the City of Phoenix.
- Installing underground conduits and pole bases.
- Erecting and dressing signal equipment.
- Installing electrical services.
- Pulling and terminating multi-conductor cable.
- Obtaining and maintaining a commercial driver's license.

- 6:50 A.M. - 3:20 P.M. Monday - Friday
Water Services Department
The Water Services Electrician position performs journeyman-skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems up to 12,470 volts for primarily commercial and industrial applications.
Responsibilities include:
- Electronics metering, instrumentation, and working with various voltages.
- Troubleshooting complex motor control wiring.
- Installing and repairing equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) standard.
- Following industry standards of the electrical trade.
- Work assignments are received by the Electrical Crew Chief, Lead Electrician, this position also trains new and current staff, as needed.

- Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 10-hour shifts
