Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Purpose of Position:
Working as a team member, ensures that the safety of structures and inside appearance of buildings at all J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College locations are kept in required working condition, in a safe and clean manner and restores malfunctioning equipment and systems to normal operation with minimal interruption. Performs assigned minor to major tasks with minimum supervision and limited or no instruction from supervisor.
Able to perform and continue building maintenance operations in the absence of the Building Maintenance supervisor. Provides customer service in response to daily maintenance request. Carries cell phone (24) hours a day to respond to "Call Back" emergencies within one hour of the call. The Call Back schedule is a rotating schedule. This position Is considered "Essential Personnel", and a first responder to inclement weather and other emergencies. This is a college-wide position and may be assigned to any of the college's locations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Journeyman level expertise in HVAC, plumbing or electrical maintenance repairs and installations; Working knowledge of electrical systems and plumbing installation and HVAC repairs; demonstrates skills in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments and equipment, hand and power tools. Demonstrates ability to perform a variety of skilled repairs and maintenance tasks in the assigned areas; can troubleshoot and repair building maintenance equipment; perform heavy manual labor and work from heights. Some experience in carpentry.
Reads and interprets blueprints/schematics; and prioritize work. Demonstrates ability to work independently, and operate a personal computer and/or computerized maintenance systems. Has the ability to lift and/or move heavy objects and knowledge of proper safety techniques. Demonstrates the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions and to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work flexible hours depending on assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent and training at a trade's school(s) in a least one of the following fields: electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the following knowledge skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience. EPA approved universal refrigerant certification (CFC) preferred for the handling and charging of air conditioning units or ability to obtain within six (6)months. Requires a valid Virginia Driver's license.
