Description:
The Startup Technician, under the direction of the Startup Supervisor, is responsible for the startup of new HVAC equipment.
Requirements:
Startup
- Troubleshoots and problem solves at startup of controls systems
- Works closely with all employees in the startup division and internal team to ensure timely, profitable, and complete projects
- Reviews scope of work required for each job
- Reviews control drawings, plans and specs of project
- May take the opportunity to work directly with the controls team to ensure thorough knowledge of scope and sequence of operations if both teams are onsite at the same time
- Completes scope of work in the amount of time estimated for the job
- Ensures pictures are taken prior to and after project is completed
- Communicates with project management for required materials for each project
- Works closely with the Superintendent to ensure customer satisfaction
- Reviews submittals and installation of equipment that needs to be started up
- In coordination with the Superintendent and upon completion of a prestart up sheet, reviews jobsite conditions to ensure equipment is ready for startup
- Daily completion of work orders in Vista
- Responsible for handling HVAC warranty calls
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Able to comprehend and speak English
- Able to identify if controls system is properly installed
- Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive details; must be able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline oriented
- Ability to interact effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, commercial customers, and the internal team
- Knowledge of energy efficient and make up air units
- Experience with commercial application of VRF’s, chillers, rooftop units, mini splits, PIU’s, VAV’s, boilers, and most HVAC equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and drawings
- Knows how to read diagrams and understands how to wire and install accessory controls on HVAC units
- Understands how to evaluate systems and charge units by superheat, subcooling
- Knows how to work and operate voltmeter and meters in general
- Knows the basic refrigeration cycles
- EPA I and II certification required
- Proficient in MS Suite, Adobe, Vista
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in the commercial HVAC industry
- NATE certification preferred
- An equivalent or combination of education (technical school) and experience is acceptable
- Has basic hand tools to do the job
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Experience with HVAC Controls a plus
