Primary Purpose:
Performs highly advanced maintenance and construction work in supervising and participating in scheduled maintenance and construction programs. Work also involves supervising maintenance and construction staff, scheduling and assigning work, requisitioning materials and supplies, estimating work hours and materials required for projects and coordinating activities with other departments. Will work under general direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Experience in construction, building systems and maintenance work, including supervisory experience over a maintenance staff.
- TASBO Certification preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of building maintenance and construction techniques and schedules.
- Knowledge of the various building systems such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical, heating and sanitation.
- Knowledge of fire and safety regulations and local building codes.
- Knowledge of welding techniques, steel fabrications, painting and carpentry.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics & written reference material.
- Ability to train and/or supervise the work of others.
- Ability to develop effective work methods, to organize preventative maintenance programs and to estimate work hours and plan work schedules.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Skill in use of hand and power tools.
Experience:
- Five years’ experience in school maintenance or related field.
- Two years supervisory experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervisory and Management
- Supervises and assigns work of maintenance and construction staff.
- Supervises and schedules preventative maintenance programs.
- Supervises the preparation of or prepares estimates of work hours, materials and resources required for projects.
- Schedules and inspects completed work including buildings and equipment.
- Confers with staff regarding job, work load and job priorities.
- Inspects buildings and equipment and reports inspection findings to supervisor.
- Trains or supervises staff training to recognize needed repairs and to report locations and condition.
- Coordinates work assignments with other supervisors to ensure efficiency and effective use of all resources.
- Approves and initiates requisitions for materials and supplies.
- May coordinate work of outside contractors and advise management on specifics of proposed or ongoing projects.
- May participate in planning programs involving physical plant, grounds or service industries.
Maintenance and Repair
- Plan, supervise and assist with completion of maintenance work orders and projects for electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, flooring and locksmith.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all building equipment and systems.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Ensure that staff follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Participates in training and safety programs.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Coordinates with staff during emergencies as needed. Directs the work of staff and/or utilizes resources to affect repairs and ensure safety of students and staff.
Other
- May perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises General Maintenance Worker, Carpenter, Painter, Plumber, Electrician, Special Systems and Locksmith
Equipment Used:
Computer, meter, gauge, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender and propane torch. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district travel.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.50 - $40.18 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
