DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking aPlumber to join its Facilities Maintenance & Development team. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:
- Perform skilled journey level plumbing work in installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures.
- Repair pipes, fixtures, and open clogged drains.
- Assemble, install, repair valves, fittings, and fixtures of heating/cooling, water, gas and/or drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Repair and install plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters, and hot water tanks. Process work orders according to sketches, building plans, and blueprints.
- Cut and thread pipe and check for leaks using pipe system, with water and/or air reading pressure gauges.
- Conduct preventive maintenance checkups of the Parks facilities. Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in plumbing construction and repair is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). May require a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
A current Texas Journeyman Level Plumber's license is required.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.*
