The qualities we look for in the Apprentice role are:
- Curious and Coachable – you want to know how things work so that you can fix them and ultimately improve them. You have a personal growth mindset and always want to know how to improve. You can take direct feedback on your performance and address it constructively.
- Self-Motivated and Dependable – there is a career path for everyone at Smartwire, but you must want it and put in the work for it. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated to deliver high quality workmanship every day and take advantage of the resources and training we provide to consistently advance in your career. Our expectation is that Apprentices will complete requisite school and training and eventually attain their Journeyman’s license.
- “Moves With a Purpose” – we never rush our work, but we do execute our plan on a timeline and we move with a purpose so we don’t waste time or effort on jobs. We act with precision and intention so we can complete every job safely and efficiently.
- Professional – we are working on commercial properties and in customer’s homes. Apprentices should take pride in presenting a professional appearance and behaving respectfully. The Apprentice is not a career length position; we want Apprentices who want to get their Journeyman card and run their own crews, so it is imperative that every Apprentice be an outstanding role model for the next generation of Apprentices.
- Safety – Safety is a top priority at Smartwire. You should work in a safe manner, adhering to applicable safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment and ensure the safety of customers and team members.
Key responsibilities
- Arrive on time for work every day: our work is scheduled and your teammates and our customers rely on you; it is critical you have reliable transportation and the ability to be on time every day
- Assist the Journeyman or Master Electrician you are assigned to in the job tasks
- Maintain good attendance and passing grades at trade school (which consists of two evening classes per week)
Qualifications
- No electrical experience is required; if you have the right attitude and work ethic we can teach you the required skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift 35 pounds and use common hand and power tools
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check
