Position Title: HVAC Helper
Position Type: Salaried (commensurate with experience) / Exempt
Position Hours: Full-time; Monday – Friday; 40 Hours per Week
Reports To: District Maintenance Supervisor & Facilities Director
Length of Term/Employment: 242 days/ At-will
Position Mission: The role of the HVAC Technician, under the supervision of the District Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe conditions and operations of all HVAC systems in facilities throughout the district.
Position Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Experience:
- Manager experience required.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
Job Duties:
- Create a work environment that promotes positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among contractors, employees, and departments.
- Checks and adjusts airflows and pressure drops in systems.
- Oils or greases mechanical equipment, changes oil in compressors and replaces belts.
- Checks and makes necessary repairs to condensers.
- Ensures water treatment equipment is working correctly at all times.
- Installs compressors, both rotary and reciprocating, reads gauges, sets thermostats, and adjusts when necessary.
- Ensures temperature settings at all facilities are aligned with district’s designated settings.
- Responds to emergency calls as needed.
- Review and follow energy and water conservation practices.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules, inspection, and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils. Perform duct cleaning and air quality testing as needed.
- Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
Equipment:
- Multi-Meter, refrigeration gauges, welding equipment, and ladder.
Budget and Inventory:
- Administer maintenance budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective, and funds are managed prudently.
- Initiate purchase orders in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
- Replace and maintain a current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid delay when reordering.
- Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for the maintenance department to the accounting department.
- Recommend the disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary.
Personnel Management:
- Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
- Recruit, train, and supervise personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
HVAC Maintenance:
- Schedule and replace a/c filters on all units on rooftops and throughout the facility.
- Clean coils and maintain units in working order.
- Timely report to the District Maintenance Supervisor all instances of mechanical failure.
- Maintain facility a/c at the district-designated temperature.
Safety:
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained in operating and optimum conditions.
Other:
- Perform disaster duty when needed.
- Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques in maintenance operations.
- Respond to after hour emergencies as needed.
- Support after school activities.
- Availability to travel between campuses and throughout the district.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of support staff and contractors assigned to campus.
