Position Overview
An electrical apprentice will be on a comprehensive learning journey to develop foundational skills and knowledge in electrical systems and equipment used in the cement manufacturing process. An apprentice will work under the guidance of experienced electricians and supervisors and will participate in hands-on training, troubleshoot electrical issues, and assist in the maintenance and repair electrical infrastructure critical to plant operations.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Works with journeyman electricians to install, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and systems throughout the plant. This includes motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
- Learns to perform electrical construction tasks such as pipe bending and treading, cable runs and basic installations compliant with NEC.
- Learns to identify and diagnose electrical problems using appropriate testing equipment and techniques.
- Assists in troubleshooting electrical failures to minimize downtime and ensure efficient operation of machinery.
- Learns to interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to understand the layout and operation of electrical systems within the cement plant.
- Supports the maintenance team in executing repairs, upgrades, and modifications to electrical systems and equipment as needed.
- Learns to understand basic functionality of variable frequency drives (VFD’s).
- Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
- Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as M.S.H.A. regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in electrical systems and machinery.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors and electricians and other technicians.
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts such as voltage, current, resistance, and circuitry.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of a vocational or technical program in electrical technology preferred.
