Job Overview:
This position is established to provide assistance to Journey level Facility Maintenance Technicians and Supervisors and to work toward independence in carrying out assigned work orders and project assignments. It performs HVAC maintenance tasks appropriate to the minimal to no skill and knowledge level and is expected to increase knowledge and skill to be ready for promotion to the journey level. This position may be used as an Apprentice,
Essential Job Duties
· Perform HVAC , refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical work as directed by a knowledgeable technician as assigned by the supervisor.
· Accomplish routine maintenance for HVAC equipment including AHUs, FCUs, RTUs, MAUs, Walk Ins, CRAC units, exhaust fans, etc.
· Work independently on basic tasks such as filter changes and other basic preventive and corrective maintenance.
· Read and understand blueprints, schematics, plans, and drawings as they apply to MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and related building systems.
· Use knowledge of fire, building, electrical, and mechanical codes to maintain compliance with state, federal, and university regulations, standards, and accepted industry practices related to facility maintenance.
· Gather and interpret information to identify the need for and collect information from a variety of sources to better understand the problems or issues.
· Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
· Reason logically to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Other Work Responsibilities
· Gain, increase, and demonstrate proficiency with the use of available office tools related to the role. (Niagara, CMMS, Microsoft Office and others as required).
· Responsible for the continuous awareness of safety procedures such as confined space, PPE , LOTO , and other safe work practices for all members of the team.
· Regularly inspect work environment and shop operations for safety to identify obvious and potential safety issues and problems.
· Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all related safety and security regulations.
· Understand, comply, and keep current with University Safety, State, and OSHA requirements and related safety manuals.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
· High school diploma or GED equivalency.
· Associate degree from an accredited institution in HVAC or Engineering or equivalent trade school training
· Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration
· Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing,)
· Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds.
· Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
· The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
· Universal EPA Certification
· Registration with TDLR
