With direction from the Zone Manager and Working Supervisor, the Mechanic works with a team of 8-10 multi-craft mechanics to perform routine and emergency electrical and multi-craft maintenance tasks for campus facilities. Additionally, the mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve requested maintenance issues and work orders. Typical craft-specific work includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance, installation, repair and inspection of lighting and electrical infrastructure.
Multi-craft maintenance activities will also include working with various plumbing systems, HVAC, paint and basic carpentry.
This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Providing preventative, ongoing, and emergency maintenance in administrative, research and academic environments.
- Maintaining and repairing lighting, electrical distribution, VFDs, motor and pumps, monthly generator testing/exercising, and load transfers.
- Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining lighting and electrical distribution.
- Pro-actively identifying, communicating, prioritizing and addressing needs without direction when appropriate.
- Responding to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable and friendly manner.
- Maintaining data per departmental policy.
- Utilizing materials, supplies, tools and other University property in a safe, productive manner.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Craft-specific requirements:
- Proficient at troubleshooting/repair/maintenance of lighting, electrical distribution, VFDs, motors, pumps, lab process equipment, elevators, and Fire Alarm systems in commercial, academic, and research environments.
- Experience in backup generator maintenance including monthly testing/exercising, load transfers, and associated documentation.
- Ability to read blueprints and have a working knowledge of electrical code compliance.
