This position is responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Understands proper ground preparation and recognizes when trenches are ready for pipe laying activities to commence. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement, glue, mastic, or rubber gasket.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a skilled nonexempt position. Days and hours of work are mostly Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week with expected overtime. This position requires long hours and some weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in dewatering operations.
- Align pipes in pipeline sections. Pipelayer is responsible for laying storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
- Closely work with Excavator Operator during trenching operations and pipeline installation. Assist in the safe operation around utility systems. Assist the Excavator Operator to achieve proper elevation during pipeline installation.
- Identify and pull out defective or misaligned pipes.
- Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
- Grade trenches or culverts.
- Seal joints.
- Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods, transit levels, and pipe laser.
- Cover pipes with dirt or other material.
- Complete applicable Company training programs.
- Able to work cooperatively with others toward a shared goal, contribute actively to the team efforts, and possess a positive attitude in working with others as a team.
- Wear personal protective equipment.
- Follow company quality standards and procedures.
- Inspect and prepare equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day.
- Complete required paperwork.
- Proactively and diplomatically communicate with supervision, peers, other employees, and customers concerning job-related problems.
- Perform additional assignments per Forman’s direction.
