Job Overview The Technician HVAC I will assist with the troubleshooting and repairing heating and air conditioning equipment for the District's campuses and offices while ensuring their safe and efficient operation.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical
- Assist in the service, repair and maintenance of all District HVAC equipment
- Repair all types of heating and air condition units to include chillers, package units, split system units, reciprocating units, boilers, air handlers and window units
- Assist with the overhaul of HVAC units
- Repair and maintain all non-related CND kitchen electrical appliances including washer/dryer equipment
Safety and Inspection
- Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations and equipment are utilized properly and that work complies with local building, mechanical, electrical and fire codes
- Monitor heating and air conditioning systems to ensure the efficient and proper operation of heating and air conditioning units
Administrative
- Keep records and prepares reports of work accomplished and cost of materials and labor
- Review, coordinate and handle work orders maintaining necessary forms
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May supervisor the work of one or more employees at a time
Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Valid State of Texas TDLR ACR Certified Technician License
- Minimum of 2 years required or HVAC trade school
- Ability to respond to emergency calls relating to malfunctioning equipment
- Knowledge of Commercial HVAC equipment (maintenance and repairs)
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and follow directions clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Skilled in the use of general tools and testing equipment pertinent to the job

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
Additional Information
- Work is performed both inside and outside school district building and facilities, and often requires working unusual hours and may be designated for 24 hour on-call. Employee is exposed to a wide range of climatic conditions, dust, flammable or toxic chemicals, and loud noise. Employee is also exposed to potential electrical shock and other physical hazards when working on electronic components and systems, operating tools and equipment and working in high places or cramped spaces. Work requires vision necessary to determine color differences. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures. Must be able to handle stressful situations as necessary. Work is reviewed through completed work orders, personal inspection by a supervisor, or approval of an administrator at the worksite and through evaluation of results obtained.
