Position Statement
The Handy Man is responsible for maintaining campus facilities and equipment. Activities include performing and recording routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs as required in the general maintenance areas related to carpentry, painting, flooring, electrical and heating and air conditioning system. All work must be done in compliance with EPA, Hazmat and OSHA safety rules and regulations. The Handy Man also is responsible for assessing and identifying required changes in existing facilities or their usage.

Job Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair of Facilities and Equipment
Inspect building components and equipment according to prescribed schedules and instructions
Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on building operations and equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers specifications, preventive maintenance schedules, and/or supervisors instructions. Maintenance to include but not limited to:
Plumbing repairs (such as unclogging drains in sanitary and outdoor drainage systems, replacement of leaky washers, etc.)
Door and windows repairs
Office equipment repairs (including dissembling/assembling machines, equipment, or furniture for servicing, repair, or replacement of parts)
Surface repairs (washing, brushing, sanding, scraping, spackling, etc.)
Painting
Maintain inventory of repair equipment and supplies
Perform general utility and ground servicing functions, including:
Cleaning activities, such as dusting, mopping, trash removal, etc.
Constructing of equipment, or furniture
Hanging shelves, bulletin boards, shades, etc.
Installing floor or ceiling tiles, doorknobs, switches, locks, etc.
Removing snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment
Spreading salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping
Checking control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues
Operate and maintain hand and power tools including, but not limited to, pneumatic tools, electric drills, band saw, stationary and portable sanders, etc.
Conduct minor renovation projects
Collaborate with a team of workers and other professionals during renovations and facility expansions, including (i) overseeing contractors and (ii) assisting in the construction and/or alteration of demo walls, ceilings and clean up areas
Perform inventory tagging
Report and document unsafe conditions in buildings and equipment, and arrange immediate repairs
Complete reports reflecting status of assigned maintenance projects
Respond to emergency situations and follow safety protocol
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Preferred Qualifications/Competencies
Proven experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position, preferably in a corporate setting
Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
Ability to use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches
Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts
Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings and check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary
Ability to lift items weighing 75 pounds or more unassisted
Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert force up to 75 pounds; to work in confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment
Physical stamina and dexterity
Able to work well with minimal supervision
