Position Overview:
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in a paper mill. This role ensures the reliability of production machinery, power distribution systems, and control panels while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on electrical systems, motors, and equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in power distribution systems, control panels, and industrial wiring.
Installation:
- Install electrical systems, components, and wiring for new machinery and upgrades.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to execute electrical projects accurately.
Troubleshooting:
- Identify and fix electrical issues in production and auxiliary systems, including motors, drives, and lighting systems.
- Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and thermal imaging equipment to locate and resolve problems efficiently.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and electrical system updates.
Control Systems:
- Work with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) to maintain and troubleshoot automated systems.
- Assist in the programming and configuration of control systems as needed.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, company policies, and safety standards (e.g., NFPA, OSHA).
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
Collaboration:
- Coordinate with maintenance teams, engineers, and operators to resolve electrical and mechanical issues.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and less experienced electricians.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a certified apprenticeship program.
- Valid Journeyman Electrician license.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of industrial electrical experience, preferably in a paper mill or manufacturing environment.
Skills:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
- Experience with high-voltage systems, motor controls, and power distribution.
- Knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment
- Work in an industrial setting with exposure to noise, heat, and machinery.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.75 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
