Position Description

This position announcement will be used to fill a full-time, permanent, safety-sensitive Facilities Maintenance Supervisor position within the Detention Facilities of Anne Arundel County Government.

The salary may be negotiable up to 10% above minimum based on work experience.

This is responsible supervisory and skilled work in the general maintenance, repair, and/or custodial services of County buildings and facilities.

NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK

Work involves responsibility for planning, organizing, and supervising through subordinate personnel the work of skilled, semi-skilled, custodial or security workers engaged in the general maintenance, repair, protection, or cleaning of buildings and facilities. Work is carried out with considerable independence under the general direction of an administrative superior, and is reviewed through inspections and evaluation of results obtained.

Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Plans, confers with, and supervises the work of subordinate trades, skilled, semi-skilled, or custodial employees engaged in the general maintenance, repair, or cleaning of County buildings and facilities, including air and temperature control systems and related appurtenances.

Develops or assists in the development of standards, and interprets policies and procedures, approves work schedules and priorities, and inspects work in progress and upon completion.

Prepares labor estimates; advises in the placement of personnel; organizes training programs; assists subordinate staff and recommends solutions to personnel problems.

Maintains and instructs subordinates in safety procedures and requirements.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of the general maintenance and repair related to the care of building and facilities.

Thorough knowledge of the operation and care of equipment, tools, and supplies related to the care of buildings and facilities.

Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate employees and tradesmen, and to assist in training and instructing employees in building maintenance, repair, or custodial operations.

Ability to establish and maintain appropriate records and reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and subordinates.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or vocational school

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) or more years of experience in building maintenance and repair operations, including one (1) or more years of supervisory experience; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Supplemental Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with HVAC, Electrical, and/or Plumbing experience.

NOTE: This position involves daily inmate contact.

NOTE: Upon appointment, selected candidates are required to successfully complete the Maryland Police And Correctional Training Academy to maintain permanent employment status.

NOTE: The selection process includes a comprehensive background investigation and medical evaluation.

NOTE: This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance and Alcohol testing
