Hours of Work: 4/10’s, 5:30am-4:00pm, Mon-Thurs
The Ideal candidate will have the CA-NV-AWWA General Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification or an ABPA Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester Certification; and a CA-NV-AWWA Cross-connection Control Specialist Certification. Have the knowledge and skills to repair all makes and models of backflow assemblies from 3/4 inch to 10 inch. Be able to perform inspections of contractor installed assemblies to make sure that the installation meets UDACS standards. Two years of maintenance and/or operations experience in the water works field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled, journey-level duties in the testing, maintenance and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; and performs related duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Practices, techniques, methods, tools and equipment used in the testing, installation, maintenance and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; shop mathematics; use and operation of oxyacetylene torch for cutting bolts and other metallic materials; Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant EPA regulations pertinent to the testing, installation and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; micro-computer applications related to the work; codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the work.
Ability to:
Inspect, install, diagnose and repair a wide variety of backflow prevention assemblies; identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work; read and interpret plans, specifications and manuals; exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work; coordinate work assignments with other sections, divisions or departments.
Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of maintenance and/or operations experience in the water works field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester within 6 mos. of hire. Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Certification.
State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Distribution Operator's, Grade I within 12 months of hire.
