Job Title: Director of Maintenance
Reports To: Executive Director of Operations
Job Summary:
The Director of Maintenance oversees all maintenance, repair, and upkeep of school facilities within the district. This role ensures that the school district's buildings and equipment are safe, functional, and well-maintained to support the educational environment. The Director of Maintenance is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising maintenance staff, managing budgets, and coordinating with administrators to address facility needs across all school sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Maintenance:

- Oversee routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance of school buildings, and equipment, including HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire, and sanitation.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
- Staff Management:

- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance staff.
- Coordinate schedules, assign tasks, and monitor performance to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
- Budgeting and Planning:

- Prepare and manage the maintenance department budget, including estimates for projects, equipment, materials, and labor.
- Coordinate with district administration to prioritize and plan for major repairs, renovations, or construction projects.
- Monitor expenses and ensure efficient use of district resources.
- Event Planning and Management:

- Collaborate with administrators and school staff to plan, coordinate, and manage special events held in district facilities or at external venues.
- Work with external organizations utilizing district facilities to ensure smooth event coordination and management.

- Vendor Management:

- Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors for repairs, services, and supplies.
- Oversee the work of external contractors to ensure quality and timely completion of projects.
- Compliance and Reporting:

- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to safety, accessibility, and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and safety protocols.
- Report maintenance issues, project updates, and other relevant information to the Executive Director of Operations and the superintendent.
- Emergency Response:

- Develop and implement emergency response plans for facility-related issues, such as power outages, HVAC failures, or water damage.
- Be available on-call for emergencies and ensure prompt action to minimize disruption to school operations.
Qualifications:
- Education:

- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher in facilities management or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in facilities or maintenance management, preferably in a school or similar institutional setting.
- Proven experience managing staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Experience with budgeting, planning, and project management.
- Skills:

- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, ADA compliance, and local building codes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in various environments, including outdoors and in mechanical rooms.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies, which may require working evenings or weekends.
Work Environment:
The Director of Maintenance will work across various school sites in the district and occasionally be required to work in outdoor and inclement weather conditions. The position requires both administrative duties and hands-on involvement in facility issues when needed.
