Satellite Lead Instructor - Springfield Training Center
Lead Instructors manage training-related activities at the Satellite Training Centers. This position is located in Springfield Oregon.

- Pay: $2,892.40 weekly, approximately $150,404.80 annually

About
Our Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee’s (JATC) primary mission is to train highly qualified, skilled, and marketable Plumbers, Steamfitters, and HVAC/R technicians for our industry. We are dedicated to developing professionals who bring expertise, character, and a sense of teamwork to the clients we service, the contractors who employ us and the union we represent.
Key Initiatives - first 90 days
- Meet all current location staff, Satellite Program Coordinators
- Inventory current assets, materials
- Learn materials ordering process
- Review current apprentice and journeyman class schedules
- Review list of curriculum, labs, and hands-on training equipment (“trainers”) needing to be developed or built and set project goals and priorities
- Ensure all assets and materials are available before the first day of class in September 2023
- Become familiar with the rules, standards, policies, and protocols included in the Apprentice and Employee Training Center handbooks and BOLI curriculum standards
- Become familiar with the licensing and certification requirements of the curriculum
Activities
- Instructor + Training Support
- Prepare and manage materials and trainers for hands-on training
- Support part-time instructors as needed
- Fill-in for part-time instructors when substitutes are not available
- Curriculum + Equipment
- Update and implement new curriculum as directed by the Curriculum Coordinators
- Ensure books, iPads, televisions, and other assets for training are working and available when needed
- Ensure tools are in good working order, repaired when needed in a timely manner
- Inventory + Ordering
- Regularly inventory materials and equipment
- Implement system for ordering and maintaining stock levels
- Monitor use and secure stocked materials to prevent loss
- Facilities Management + Other Duties
- Manage facility maintenance and improvement projects
- Facilitate Work Keys testing for applicants
- Facilitate Orientations
- Help with Outreach when possible
- Other Duties and Activities will be assigned or updated as needed

Experience
Required Certifications, Licenses, Education and Skills:
- 5 + years' experience as a Journey worker or higher in their trade, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
- 1 + experience supervising and managing a team in the field as a foreman or general foreman
- Proficiency with of Office 365 programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Forms, PowerPoint, Blue Beam, and others
- Proficiency with other technology tools, including Teams and Zoom
- Experience and comfort using iPads
- Any other certifications necessary to instruct with authority and to maintain compliance
Preferred Experience:
- Required License and Certifications per trade;
- LEB (HVAC/R) (OR)
- Plumbing License (OR)
- Class 5 Boiler License (Steamfitting or HVAC/R)
- Current UA Certifications (Steamfitting)
- Experience leading a complex project
- 10+ years' experience as a Journey worker in the field, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
- 1+ years as a current or former instructor in the same or similar apprenticeship program
- ITP Instructor Certification
- Associate's degree or other professional certification related to the trade
The following work activities will be preferred and helpful:
- Curriculum development work experience
- Project Management experience is helpful
- Experience working as an instructor in a similar environment
Industry Knowledge that will be helpful:
- Understanding of trade apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs
- Advanced knowledge of licensing and certification requirements
Environment
This position is on site, and is a mix of seated work at a computer, walking, bending, and using tools, climbing ladders, work at floor level and above, sometimes on knees and other positions in the course of building trainers, climbing, pulling, occasionally driving long distances, occasionally using a forklift, and regularly using vision to inspect work product. Regularly lifting up to 50 lbs. The main campus where the job mostly takes place is large and flat, significant walking is required to get from each area of the building.
Travel
There are six (6) training centers in Oregon and one (1) in California, with a future site planned to be opened in Washington. Some travel to satellite locations may be required sometimes.
