Position Summary
The Apprentice Electrician will have the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience in various electrical systems and installations. The Apprentice Electrician assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within a data center environment. Under the supervision of a journeyman or master electrician, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in electrical work while adhering to safety protocols and industry standards. The position offers a foundational role for individuals looking to develop a career in electrical systems within data centers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assisting in Electrical Installation and Maintenance:
· Help install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, conduits, lighting, and control systems.
· Perform basic tasks such as pulling wire, drilling holes, and mounting electrical boxes under supervision.
· Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical issues.
2. Learning and Development:
· Actively participate in training programs and apprenticeship classes to develop skills and knowledge.
· Study and follow blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
· Learn to use and maintain electrical tools and equipment properly.
3. Compliance and Safety:
· Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and codes.
· Report any unsafe conditions or practices to supervisors immediately.
4. Equipment and Tools:
· Utilize appropriate tools and equipment for electrical work, ensuring they are maintained in good condition.
· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to electrical systems to determine the layout of the electrical systems, as well as customer needs.
5. Team Collaboration and Communication:
· Work closely with journeyman electricians and other team members to complete tasks.
· Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and any issues that arise.
· Assist in keeping work areas clean and organized.
6. Documentation:
· Maintain accurate records of work performed, including tasks completed and materials used.
· Assist in preparing reports on project status as required.
7. Travel:
· Travel 60-70% to various data center locations or project sites as required.
· Ensure compliance with travel policies and procedures while maintaining high standards of work at different locations.
Experience
· Basic understanding of electrical principles and concepts in accordance with local and national codes.
· Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
· Ability to self-motivate and manage assigned workflow in both independent and team settings.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Basic knowledge of the use of power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, knock punches, and any tools associated with the electrical industry.
· Basic knowledge of how to bend conduits using hand benders, mechanical benders, or hydraulic benders.
· Operate two-handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, and any other tools associated with the electrical industry.
· Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, electric or gas powered.
· Operate company vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions of less than 26,000 GVW.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
· Must be at a minimum of 18 years of age.
· Work a 40-hour work week, overtime as required and night shifts when applicable.
· Have and maintain a current, valid, and in good standing Driver’s License that will meet the requirements of our insurance company to drive company vehicles.
Education/Certifications
· High School degree or GED required.
· Enrolled in a certified apprenticeship or qualifying program (as required by state laws).
· Additional certifications (OSHA, NFPA 70E, etc) are a plus.

- Work is performed in a data center environment, which may include exposure to electrical hazards, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by the needs of the project demands.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
- Lift arms above shoulder level.
- Lift minimum of 50 pounds.
- Climb ladders (all types of step ladders, frame ladders, and all size extension ladders). Being able to carry and relocate up to 12 ft. step ladders by oneself. Be able to go up and down stairways daily. Perform work at various heights, up to 90 feet from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe work areas.
- Work in restricted areas: switchgear rooms, manholes, vaults, trenches, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics or other spaces required to perform electrical work.
- Be able to wear all (PPE) Personal Protection Equipment.
- Complete overhead work for a full day assignment.
- Must be able to make transition from employee parking or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable and safe to use.
- Good vision and hearing (normal or corrected). Correctly identify colors.
- Since some projects are located where there are no places to eat lunch or obtain food you would be required to bring your lunch and any necessary snacks or drinks.
- Able to utilize job site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
- Ability to Travel 60%-70% of the time.
