The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION :
Under general supervision, the HVAC Assistant Supervisor performs skilled journey-level HVAC work and assists the Manager of Building Trades with daily operations, oversight, work order management and oversight of HVAC personnel. The ideal candidate has working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and experience maintaining, repairing, and replacing all types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, chillers, and cooling towers. Must be able to accurately diagnose, repair, and calibrate chillers and install, inspect, maintain and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Incumbent must possess strong communication and customer service skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.
Leadership and Supervision
Provide direction, training, and performance evaluations for assigned HVAC staff. Organize and assign work through the work order system; set priorities and ensure coordination and completion of tasks.
Installation and Repair
Install, maintain, and repair chillers, refrigeration systems, and HVAC equipment, including:
Split systems, VRF systems (ducted and ductless), package units, valves, water pumps, heat pumps, fans, air handler units, heating units, refrigeration equipment, and air compressors. Conduct end-to-end testing, programming, start-ups, and commissioning of HVAC systems.
System Diagnostics and Calibration
Diagnose and resolve issues related to airflow, refrigerant levels, and other system components.
Calibrate and adjust HVAC components to ensure optimal performance.
Preventive Maintenance
Perform periodic and special preventive maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment condition and recommend necessary repairs.
Carry out routine preventive maintenance to maintain equipment in good operating condition.
Cooling Tower Management
Clean and maintain cooling tower operations.
Overhaul cooling towers and related equipment, including control systems and interconnections with air conditioning master controls.
Water Treatment
Apply knowledge of water chemistry to determine chemical requirements for proper water treatment and apply chemicals as needed.
Technical Proficiency
Interpret blueprints, manufacturer instructions, and verbal/written directives to determine operational sequences for maintenance and repairs.
Use electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment to troubleshoot problems.
Installation Support
Assist in the installation of new air conditioning systems, including ducts, piping, and various units.
Service and Communication
Respond to service calls, diagnose issues, and complete necessary repairs.
Maintain effective communication with campus community members, including students, building managers, and other personnel.
Contractor Oversight
Oversee outside contractors performing HVAC maintenance and repair services to ensure quality and compliance.
Industry Knowledge
Stay current with the latest industry developments and practices.
Safety Compliance
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Additional Duties
Perform HVAC shop and Central Facilities Services duties as assigned.
Support Supervisory Duties: Assist the HVAC Supervisor in all aspects of leadership and management, ensuring the smooth operation of the team.

Titles: Air Conditioning Mechanic, Preventative Maintenance Technician, Air Conditioning Mechanic
Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and develop staff.
Clearly communicate job requirements and expectations.
Coordinate training and resources to support the performance of work duties.
Provide ongoing coaching that is balanced, helpful, timely, and contributes to a work environment of open communication, ownership of duties, and trust.
Assist Supervisor with addressing performance issues early, create appropriate documentation, and ensure follow through. Collaborate with Management and Human Resources as needed.
Assist Supervisor with annual written performance reviews.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will be added to the on-call rotation to include weekends. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
COMPENSATION
Pay : The hourly salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $44.71 - $47.11 per hour.
