DEPARTMENT: ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION
DUTIES:
Under general directive supervision of the electrical substation manager or foreman.
Directs and instructs apprentices, skilled and semi-skilled workers in performing a variety of shop duties by inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical and electronic components and assemblies.
Maintains shop facilities and is generally responsible for all work in progress, equipment, and electrical apparatus in the shop area.
Performs or may direct and instruct apprentices and helpers (under his direct supervision) in the dielectric testing and visual inspection of rubber protective equipment, blankets, and gloves.
Performs in the inspection, overhaul, meggering, and testing of transformers, step or induction type voltage regulators, motors, armatures, oil circuit breakers, reclosers, sectionalizers, and electric gates; performs ratio test on transformers for operating characteristics.
Assembles, repairs, and inspects street lighting transformers and lighting controls; overhauls and inspects photoelectric relays on light control systems; complies with specifications received from engineering in the assembly of special lighting control requirements.
Conducts test of transformer oil and may process through filtering machine for sediment and moisture content to prevent voltage breakdown; may fill or check oil level in new or overhauled transformers.
Instructs personnel in the proper and safe way to perform their duties and in the use of tools and equipment; provides safety training instructions and is responsible for the general safety of personnel and in administering first aid to injured persons when necessary; works around energized equipment requiring caution and the use of safety devices; conforms with all safety policies as established by the Company; complies with apprentice requirements in the training of apprentices.
Prepares estimates and requisitions supplies and materials to be used for construction, maintenance, or replacement purposes; determines the kind, size, quantity, and quality of material required. Is responsible for general electrical maintenance at the Service Center.
Performs other related and assigned duties.
