POSITION DESCRIPTION
As a HVAC Lead, your job is to complete and supervise the installation of gas furnaces, heat pumps / ACs, ductless heat pumps, water heaters, mechanical ventilation systems, and seismic shutoffvalves. Additionally, you are responsible for performing maintenance and service calls on equipment for existing or new clients. You are responsible for protecting the client's property and holding your team to the highest standards of safety and professionalism. We expect that you will responsibly and respectfully supervise and train any apprentices or helpers on your team.

Independently complete the following:
Gas Furnace
- Ensure that the proposed location for installation: (1) is non-hazardous; (2) allows for proper clearance; and (3) does not compromise the structural integrity of the building.
- Verify that the entire gas line from meter to appliance is free of leaks.
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Heat Pump / AC
- Ensure that condensate produced by the system is removed via an adequately sloped drainage system and flows to a suitable termination point.
- Seal line set penetrations into the building shell with caulk, foam, or other compatible sealant.
- Cover outdoor sections of line set with a rigid UV-resistant covering where possible or a flexible UV-resistant covering where rigid ones are impractical.
- Rest the outdoor unit on a permanent, stable, level surface. The surface should be free of debris or obstacles that restrict airflow.
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Ductless Heat Pump
- Make sure that condensate produced by the system is removed via an adequately sloped drainage system and flows to a suitable termination point.
- Condensate pumps should only be used when other reasonable solutions for adequate drainage are unfeasible.
- Insulate the entire line set. Line set penetrations in the building shell should be sealed with caulk, foam or other compatible sealant.
- Protect outdoor sections of line set with a mechanically secured, UV-resistant rigid covering where possible or a flexible UV-resistant covering where rigid ones are impractical.
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Gas Water Heater
- Ensure that the proposed location for installation: (1) is non-hazardous; (2) allows for proper clearance; and (3) does not compromise the structural integrity of the building.
- Properly secure vent connectors entering a masonry chimney and seam tightly at the entrance point. Verify that the entire gas line from meter to appliance is free of leaks.
- Strap the water heater on the upper third and lower third of the tank to resist horizontal displacement caused by seismic motion.
- Set water temperature to 120°F unless otherwise instructed by the homeowner.
- Secure exhaust flue vent connections with screws, and make sure the exhaust flue is adequately sloped.
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Heat Pump Water Heater
- Ensure that condensate produced by the system is removed via an adequately sloped drainage system and flows to a suitable termination point.
- The location and clearances around the water heater must meet manufacturer requirements.
- Set the ducting and applicable fan settings in accordance with the manufacturer's specs.
- Strap the water heater on the upper third and lower third of the tank to resist horizontal displacement caused by seismic motion.
- If only exhaust air is ducted outside of the conditioned space, make sure the combustion appliances are functioning properly and safely, and carbon monoxide alarm requirements are met.
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Mechanical Ventilation
- Install the system in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
Automatic Gas Shutoff Valve
- Install in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and jurisdictional codes.
General Responsibilities

Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in Lead installer and/or Service Tech roles, preferably some of each
- Advanced knowledge of layout, design, and installation of residential HVAC systems
- In-depth understanding of inverted mini-split and ducted systems
- Demonstrated customer service skills and excellent client communication
- Demonstrated Leadership skills and the desire and ability to train others
- Clean safety record with knowledge of best practices for workplace safety
- Proficiency with HVAC low voltage systems
- Ability to test and balance residential HVAC systems
- Knowledge of applicable building codes in the Portland Metro area
- Obtain and maintain all installer-based NATE Certifications
- Obtain and maintain a Residential Water Heater installer License
