JOB SUMMARY
The Journeyman Plumber maintains all plumbing systems in district facilities, including culinary and sanitary water systems. This position also works closely with the HVAC and electrical departments to maintain pumps, heating and cooling systems, and boilers.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Utah State (DOPL) Plumber license
- One (1) year of job-related experience
- Experience, proficiency, and ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and experience using data-based software
- Utah driver’s license and evidence of insurability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.
- Three (3) years of job-related experience
- Current backflow certification and ability to maintain certification every three years
- Knowledge and experience with boiler maintenance
- Previous experience working for a school district or other public entity
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose problems or failures in plumbing and irrigation systems to identify activities necessary to repair and maintain the systems
- Install plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g., hot water heaters, drinking fountains, roof drains, sprinkler systems, pumps, etc.) to provide comfort, sanitation, and safety within facilities
- Renovate plumbing systems to comply with building codes and meet accessibility and functionality requirements.
- Research, inspect, design, install, test, and maintain equipment for plumbing systems to ensure system equipment is working properly and equipment is serviced and updated as needed
- Analyze drawings to identify locations of new and existing plumbing systems and develop plans for the installation of additional systems.
- Perform tests on backflow systems and fire alarm systems to ensure the systems are functioning properly
- Stock equipment and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels
- Transport various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) to job sites
- Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently
- Ensure that all work performed is in compliance with applicable codes, safety practices, and standards
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform job functions
- Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
- Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work unites to effectively perform job duties.
- Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
- As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 5% crawling tunnels, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
