POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform maintenance service and repair work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, systems or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve plumbing, insulating; carpentry; painting; plastering; machine servicing; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; repairing buildings, floors, or stairs; or vehicle servicing. Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty. Knowledgeable in commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the particular field. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Work under immediate supervision. Typically report to a Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hand tools, or power tools
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, referring to parts catalogs, as necessary
- Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, or equipment
- Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures
- Repair and replace furniture as needed
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions
- Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions
- Maintain specialized equipment or machinery located in residential spaces, laundries, kitchens, offices, attics, basements, stairwells, lounges, and exteriors.
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels or straightedges
- Perform routine maintenance on electrical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work into work order system
- Requests parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliers for maintenance repairs
- Operate University of South Florida (USF) vehicles
- On call rotation required
- Perform other duties, as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires completion of an approved apprenticeship program for one or more trades; or a high school diploma and four years of related experience. Appropriate experience may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required education. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
