Seeking a HVAC Technician in the Facility Operations Division of the General Services Department. This position will be responsible for performing demands related to HVAC systems, preventative maintenance, and repairs in approximately 180 City facilities. We are offering a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
- Observe mechanical devices in operating to determine repairs needed
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove and repair or replace defective parts
- Inspect defective parts to detect imperfections
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Install special functional and structural parts in devices
- Lubricate and clean parts and start devices to test their performance
- Keep records/timesheets and itemize duties performed on the job
- Read electrical diagrams
- General maintenance and repair of other items/systems typically found in commercial facilities including but not limited to plumbing
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to read Blue Prints and diagrams
- Must be able to work overtime, including weekend/holiday on-call and emergency call backs
- Must have a good driving record
- Valid Driver’s License
- Works well as part of a team
- Must be able to lift to 75lbs. of equipment and/or tools
- Ability to maintain a city driving permit
- Ability to load and unload extension ladders from top of utility van and place upright against buildings
- Ability to climb ladders, crawl and work in small spaces
- Works in an organized, clean and safe manner
- Ability to work in a Microsoft Suite and a computer-based work order management system
- Must be able to work within proximity of animals
- Considerable knowledge of principals and a mastery of skills related to commercial HVAC systems
- Willingness and ability to acquire a North Carolina State HVAC contractor’s license
High School diploma with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an Associate’s Degree and one (1) year of experience or equivalent combination of background, experience and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
Requires Universal Certification for Refrigeration Handling
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
