The Opportunity
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Instructor to join our team and lead our HVAC training program. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in HVAC systems - including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair - and a passion for training people who are new to the HVAC field.
As an HVAC Instructor, you will prepare trainees for successful careers in the HVAC industry, most of whom will start the program with no prior HVAC knowledge or experience. You will ensure they develop proficiency in the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for successful HVAC technicians. While instructor experience is preferred, it is not required; this role is open to skilled and experienced HVAC professionals even if they do not have formal teaching experience. NOCC offers support and resources to new instructors as needed, including a framework for designing curriculum, courses, and lesson plans.

Responsibilities
- Ensure trainees can earn industry-based certifications aligned to the HVAC training program and are employment-ready, including NCCER Core, Multi-Craft Core Curriculum, and EPA 608.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive HVAC training courses covering topics such as system design, installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Develop curriculum materials, daily lesson plans, and instructional resources.
- Instruct students on the principles of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Demonstrate proper procedures for installing, servicing, and repairing HVAC equipment.
- Deliver effective hands-on training using tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments commonly used in the HVAC industry.
- Teach students to identify and troubleshoot common HVAC problems and malfunctions.
- Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Assess student performance routinely through practical assignments, tests, and evaluations. Coordinate certification testing.
- Offer constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve their HVAC skills.
- Stay updated on advancements in HVAC technology, industry trends, and regulatory requirements. Then, integrate advancements into instruction.
- Collaborate effectively with other instructors, program coordinators, case managers, and other staff to enhance the effectiveness of training programs and trainee outcomes.
- Serve as a mentor for trainees to support successful employment after certification.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding special events, marketing, and additional trainee opportunities.
- Outfit and maintain a safe and organized HVAC workshop environment, ensuring compliance with NOCC and industry safety standards and regulations. Recommend, purchase, maintain, and catalog supplies and equipment.
Required Skills and Preferred Experience
- Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or HVAC Instructor.
- Certification in NCCER HVAC levels 1 and 2, as well as OSHA 10, is required.
- Willingness to attend NCCER development and become a certified NCCER Crafts Instructor and/or Proctor as part of professional development.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and operations.
- Familiarity with HVAC codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and understandably.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and mentorship.
- Organizational skills with the ability to develop and deliver structured instructional activities.
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary Range $60,000 - $80,000
