The General Manager handles all aspects of marina operations within budgetary guidelines in an efficient, cost effective and creative manner and is responsible for improving the marina’s guest services level, performance, efficiency, and profitability.
The General Manager works collaboratively with the Home Office and other colleagues throughout the organization.
He/She is an excellent leader and provides the highest level of customer service in a friendly, helpful manner while accurately responding to
the customers’ needs. Projects a professional company image through all types of interaction. As this is a fast pace environment, must be
able to work under pressure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Achieve financial results according to the annual operating and capital budgets;
2. GM’s need to own the business and know it cold, especially the financials and budget;
3. Supervise all marina operations to ensure prompt, courteous and safe service to all customers;
4. Routinely inspect all areas of the property to ensure an above average appearance and a proper safety environment, including enforcing trash pick-up and other tasks that are consistent with this goal;
5. Understand and comply with government regulations pertaining to marina operations and handle all aspects of governmental reporting and compliance including but not limited to weights and measures, OSHA, EPA, and Corp of Engineers;
6. Maintain a professional relationship with all agencies, contractors, vendors, and customers;
7. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise all employees and/or contract labor either directly or via departmental supervisors, including disciplinary actions and terminations when appropriate;
8. Ensure the safety of customers and employees. Provide for training of employees in the safe use of marina equipment and all functions related to their respective positions, including the training of fire fighting equipment and spill containment;
9. Maintain local SOP and Instruction Manual in current order;
10. Respond to and resolve customer disputes consistent with Suntex Core Values;
11. Approve and oversee all long-term dock leasing and waiting list and retail leasing;
12. Approve annual operating budget and monitor actual versus projected budget figures on a monthly basis. Investigate negative deviations and set/monitor objectives to correct;
13. Approve all purchases, invoices and check requests;
14. Ensure proper controls to safeguard assets including but not limited to equipment and inventory;
15. Ensure that all company and customer equipment are secure each evening prior to lock up;
16. Ensure and take appropriate action for the proper maintenance of all marina equipment, property, grounds and floating or fixed docks;
17. Establish, execute and enforce vessel hauling and launching procedures for dry storage vessels;
18. Coordinate with direct reports to ensure efficient running of all departments;
19. Oversee and approve implementation and maintenance of marketing programs for marina;
20. Derive new revenue sources;
21. Lead weekly property Manager meetings;
22. Perform such duties as assigned by slip customers;
23. Respond to wind storm or other emergency events that could damage marina assets or guest property;
24. Ensures adherence to all Suntex policies, procedures and practices;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Five (5) years previous management experience which included direction of employees, accounting and related budgeting activities, inventory control, advertising, and customer relations. Marine related experience required.
2. General accounting knowledge and basic understanding of financial statements;
3. Math computation skills;
4. English language skills, written and oral;
5. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, customers, tenants, vendors, and government personnel;
6. Ability to make independent decisions and determine appropriate course of action;
7. Must be available for 24-hour telephone contact for emergency response;
8. Strong ability to develop partnerships with internal clients/others;
9. Good presentation, facilitation and computer skills;
